How do you manage the system of account numbers after the school WiFi is online?

The system is just starting, and the system's running. We've seen too many schools, we've been on it, and there's a mess in the account: double accounts, ghost accounts, mismatching of permissions.

The system is only starting. The system runs long. We've seen too many schools, they get hot and rife, and six months later the accounts are in a mess: duplicate accounts, ghost accounts, mismatched accounts, and we need to check how long a student goes on a day and can't turn it over half a day.

I've been setting the name code since day one.

The name of the account appears to be a minor matter and is a big deal. It is recommended that the student should not be allowed to use the number of the student or teacher directly as an entry. The biggest problem with custom accounts is renames and hard to trace, but it is not possible to know who is behind them. Using the key for the main job, then linking names, faculties, roles in the system is the only one that can be checked. If schools have a single identity, it is more economical to repeat the account and not to start another special Internet access code.

The role layer is in the strategy.

The core of the system is to keep people in a different category. Students, teachers, teaching staff, visitors, and devices for the Internet vary from one type to another, with their respective certification methods, bandwidth, and billing rules. Many school maps are very small, using a default strategy to run the full amount, and teachers are also restricted in speed and visitors can enter the Intranet. When they go online, the role and strategy interfaces are configured and reviewed regularly.

Life cycle events are automatically flowing.

If the system is not completed for a while, at least manual processes are to be used: each school opening and graduation nodes, with network centres leading an inventory of accounts and status updates. Leaves people out of charge, zombie accounts run by years more than active ones, wasting authority and leaving security risks.

We need to find the unusual account.

The shared account is a grey area common to schools, where one dormitory shares a number and an account has more than a dozen devices. The system must be able to identify the obvious anomalies manually by using login numbers, talking lines and hours. Not all irregularities are immediately sealed but at least someone sees them. We recommend monthly export of an unusual list of accounts, which should be verified by school staff or tutors, with irregular sharing placed within control.

The account data itself must be backed up and audited

Finally, the account library is the most valuable and vulnerable part of the system. To have a regular backup, it is not only one copy, preferably one from another, to prevent single-point damage. At the same time, whoever changes account privileges, who batches data, leaves marks and gets problems that can be traced back to people. Accounts governance sounds so trivial, but it is the long-standing roots of the school WiFi online Authentication & Billing system.

Self-service capacity for students and administrators

The user can change the password, untie lost equipment, check the amount of time spent in the month; tutors must be able to handle the shift in bulk. These high-frequency operations are used as self-service portals that reduce the pressure on the network centers’ work orders and allow students to control their accounts.

The account is regularly informed about its health.

The system of accounts is not built to be healthy, and it needs to be constantly trimmed as if green land. It is recommended that a copy of the report on the level of health of the accounts be produced every semester: how many zombies account numbers are used, how many unusual sharings are made, how many rights are wrongly assigned, and how much of the information is shown to the authorities. This will put pressure on the departments to work together.

Account governance to be included in the evaluation

The health of the account system ultimately depends on whether it is taken seriously. It is proposed that key indicators for account governance be incorporated into the appraisals of relevant departments, such as zombie accounts clean-up and abnormal sharing rates. With a successful clearance, the faculties will cooperate rather than place the account numbers at the heart of the network. Governance is not a matter of network centres; it requires teaching, learning, personnel and maintenance.
