The day the certification system is online, it's often the most important moment for the supplier.——Engineers are present, process smooth, and receive signature. But when they get online, the system is running every day without continuous support, and problems start to arise within six months. Many hotel WiFi certification projects fail, not at deployment stage, but in failed processes."Nobody cares."The daily transport phase. This should be the same as the one that's supposed to be built when you get online.
Minimum action set for daily inspections
Not requiring a large amount of time per day on the authentication system, but having a minimum routine check action set that allows most problems to be detected before they become serious. The daily check includes whether the certification service process is running properly, whether the SMS switch balance is adequate (it is recommended to set less than 200 automatic alarms), whether the recent 24-hour certification success rate is within normal range (for example, less than 90% is worth noting), and whether server disk usage is close to the ceiling (log files will continue to grow). This check item is made into a simple checklist, which is carried out on a rotating basis by front desk or IT staff, rather than relying on regular inspections by suppliers.
Management of SMS gateways
SMS balances depletion is one of the most common causes of certification interruptions, and often occurs at the most inappropriate times.——The holiday in full room suddenly does not allow all guests to receive the code. The way to prevent this problem is simple: automatic alarms are created on the system when text balances fall below the threshold, pre-charged; monthly billing management of SMS costs is established, compared with monthly consumption and an abnormal increase is detected, which may be a robot swipe interface. If available, it is accompanied by primary text message access and backup channels, automatically switch when problems arise in the main channel.
Regular clean-up of account data
The user account for the authentication system will accumulate over time. For mobile-based certified systems, dozens of additional authentication records are added each day, and tens of thousands of data will be available every year. Most certification systems can lower their search performance when the number is too large to affect the speed of the validation response. It is recommended that historical data be cleaned regularly after retirement (generally six months). Active accounts (for nearly 30 days there are certified records) and inactive accounts are managed separately, and inactive account data files are condensed without taking up the main library space.
Management of solids and software updates
The authentication system software needs to be updated regularly, as do the AP controller and network device fixes. But updates are not randomly done——The update is preceded by confirmation of changes, testing the normality of the updated authentication process and leaving a rollback option. Security-related updates (repairs to known gaps) should be prioritized; functional updates can be arranged at low occupancy times.
Establishment and validation of backup mechanisms
The configuration data and authentication logs of the authentication system server need to be backed up regularly. The backup frequency can be lower (on a weekly basis), but the validation log is compliance-based, recommended daily back-up, which goes to an independent storage medium (not on the same hard disk as the main server). Once the backup has been completed, a recovery exercise is performed every month: to restore the data from the backup file to the test environment and verify the validity of the backup."Backup was done, but never tested for recovery."The loss was already unavoidable when damage to the backup document or a problem in restoring the process was discovered only after the need for restoration had become real.
Vendor-supported SLA management
The service agreement between the hotel and the supplier usually contains a commitment to fail-response time. Many hotels have signed contracts, even if they never really track whether or not the vendor has responded. It is proposed that a simple breakdown order record be created: each time there is an authentication problem, time when the issue arises, time of contact with the supplier, time of response by the supplier, time of resolution.
Pre-preparedness for seasonal requirements
The certification system should be fully checked in advance of the arrival peaks, such as 51, 11 and spring days: the balance of SMS gateways is adequate, the performance of authentication servers supports peaks and distributions, and whether Portal pages need to update the holiday theme. These preparations are completed one week before the holidays, so that no problems arise during holiday peaks. For hotels equipped with conference services, large meetings are also a small summit, and pre- and post-session inspections are necessary.
Create internal transport knowledge deposition
Hotel IT staff are not very mobile, and new people need to learn again after a staff member who is familiar with the certification system has left. To reduce the impact of this loss of knowledge, common operations and troubleshooting should be documented: how to check the authentication status of a cell phone number at the back desk, how to manually connect a MAC address, how to restart the certification service process and how to handle it."The certification was successful, but it wasn't online."The file doesn't have to be complicated, two or three pages is enough, but with it and without it, the speed of entry for new employees is much different.
The system was not created to increase the workload, but to bring about a new system of transportation."I don't know when it's gonna be all right."Changed"The problem comes up and knows how to handle it."The core of the WiFi certification system is to bring up the frequency of active inspections, to stabilize emergency response and to keep the supplier's support services under control. These three things are done in a way that provides a basic guarantee for the stability of daily transport.
