If you've done a few projects on the campus network WiFi, one thing will be discovered: the same thing."Vocational colleges"The difference between the middle and senior jobs is larger than many would have expected. It is a student’s use of WiFi, authenticated by real names, and the need to keep a log, but the underlying management logic, user drawings, and sources of funding are completely different.
Differences in student groups determine differences in management strategies
The majority of students in secondary schools are between 15 and 18 years old, and in some provinces there is a proportion of children who have graduated from junior high school. This age group is characterized by mixed self-regulation, the use of Internet games is mostly entertainment based, and short video and play is much more frequent than learning applications."Control"Not"Facilities"——Many secondary schools require compulsory blackouts after 11 p.m. and some also require blocking of games applications.
The students in higher education are mostly adults over 18 years of age, and a large proportion still work as interns, candidates or part-time."Force off the grid"This simple, rough way, more likely."Speed limit"Or..."Time limit"——At night, the maximum duration is limited to each person and is liberalized during the day so as not to affect students who have genuine learning needs.
This difference directly affects the strategic configuration template of the WiFi network billing system on campus. When you program middle-level colleges, ACL rules and time control are a priority function; when you program higher-level institutions, it is more important to have equitable bandwidth distribution and compatibility with multiple certification methods."The system's not working."。
Network infrastructure starts from different points of view.
Many secondary schools have their network upgrades from zero or an old network that was mostly wired a decade ago. They probably don't even have a single wireless control, and AP is in a bulk-free building."Fat AP"Each AP is separate. It takes a lot of time to get on campus with the WiFi network billing system in this environment.——You have to build a thin AP system that can be managed uniformly, otherwise the billing system is not going to work.
Higher education institutions are usually built in a round of information, with three-tier structures (core-convergence-access) mostly available, and AC controllers, but probably old or branded."Reconcile already available"The challenge has been: Can your NATSHEL_AUTH_GATEWAY connect to the AC of different brands? Is RADIUS certification request issued to an existing billing server or to a new system? How can you migrate the user data from old systems?
These two starting points determine a different distribution of the project’s workload. For projects at middle-level colleges, the network may account for 60% of the total project, and the billing system is only part of it; for projects at higher educational institutions, the docking and debugging of the fee-based system may be the main workload, and network adaptation is partial optimization.
Source of funds influences procurement decisions
The State has funds for vocational education (e.g., in the case of schools)."Double Plan"、"Integration of maternity"Many secondary schools and colleges have their network adaptation money from tuition fees, relatively limited budgets, and policymakers are price sensitive."It's good enough to work."It's common mentality.
Higher education institutions have a relatively more detailed budget, especially for two-class senior posts (see table)."High and high."They're more interested in buying high-availability, transportation support, data analysis, and not just one."It's just a network."The basic system.
This difference has a direct impact on programme design. The middle-level schools are given programmes that control the total price, do not perform essential functions, can reuse hardware and secure core functions; they are more likely to pay for the high-level institutions by making them more complete programmes, adding HA to their high-availability, big screen data displays, and in-depth alignment with teaching systems.
The focus of compliance pressure is different.
The regulatory authorities in some provinces and municipalities require schools to filter the content of their children's Internet presence.——Not just real name certification, but content-level controls. This gives the campus network WiFi a new need: either the system itself supports online behavior management (URL filtering, application recognition) or it can be connected to dedicated web behaviour management devices.
The requirements for compliance are that the public security official must certify and keep a log.
This is clearly stated in the program, especially when it comes to middle-level schools. If your campus network WiFi web billing system does not have the capacity to manage online behavioral skills, you must make clear in the program."This system is responsible for Authentication & Billing, which requires content control to be accompanied by an on-line behavior management device, as detailed in annex XXX.". Don't wait until the project is accepted and the EDB checks to find a missing item before scratching it.
Project landing lessons learned
After several middle and senior jobs, I have a few generalizations:
First, research is structured. Instead of talking to the teachers in the Information Section, we talk to the CMS, Logistics and Treasury. The Information Division is concerned with technical stability, behavior control, logistics, accommodation break-up strategies, and treasury, which is concerned with accurate billing. These departments are not consistent with each other's demands, and they may not have been able to communicate with each other.
Many middle-level schools have a weak information base, limited IT capability, and after-sale service pressure is higher than high-level jobs. The contract will make SLA clear, while providing an idiotic interface to the system and lowering the transportation threshold.
Third, senior-level projects need to be ready for docking. Higher-level colleges usually have their own OA, pedagogic, and residential systems, which they will require from the campus network WiFi web billing system to connect with these systems.
