Illustrated by the college network: The campus network WiFi Network Billing System, which looks like a kind of a..."You can use it when you buy it back."The place where you step on the pit is a lot more than you'd expect. Not that the product is not good, but that the university environment is so special that students use habits, authentication docking methods, network structures, financial closure processes, and everything."Standard programme"Transform.

Punk I: Element of the Enterprise Programme

This is the most common problem. Many of the integrated players have a hotel WiFi billing, commercial WiFi certification success story and feel that they're not going to be able to get a job."I've done a few hundred hotel rooms. How many dorms on campus?"The hotel is a fixed terminal, fixed access time, and a single front office open house. The network is highly controlled. What is it about the campus network? 120,000 students start the operation at once, certify, do classes at the same time, and rob classes at the same time, with peaks and distributions several dozen times or even hundreds of times higher than hotels?

And the key is to authenticate logic. The hotel is..."I'll check in and get it back to WiFi."The campus network is..."I'll give you the Internet, but you're responsible for your actions."The hotel programme does not usually have to be connected to the engineering system, do not need to distinguish between four or five roles: it does not need to consider mass operations for opening and graduating year-long centralised customers. You take a corporate Portal certification system to meet campus network requirements, and the light access model is changed to completely different faces.

Punk II: Ignored the complexity of operator interfaces

Most of the campus WiFi is now not made by the school itself, but by operators. Mobile, telecommunications, and connectivity operators are working on one campus, with each of them taking a certification and billing link.

It doesn't sound complicated, but in reality every operator has a different authentication interface, heartbeat-support mechanism, and reconciliation process. Mobiles like their own EAP-SIM certification channel, telecommunications prefer Web Portal+SMS, and connections may require you to support one of the RADIUS agents inside them. You have to make all these modules configured instead of writing them down in code. I've seen a project that brings together a high school into two authentication links.——One for moving, one for telecommunications.——As a result, the two sales outlets were simultaneously involved in each other ' s requests for certification, with the entire Portal page being carded for 20 minutes.

Punk three: Yeah."Free."The campus network is too shallow to understand.

Most of the students are online now."Free."At least nominally. The fees for the Internet are already included in the tuition fees, and students naturally feel that they're not going to be able to use it."I'll just use it if I pay."But this..."Free."The requirements for the system are higher. Why? Because there is no cost threshold, network resources will be consumed unbridled.

A qualified campus network WiFi web-based billing system, in"Free mode"The core problem to be solved is not to collect money, but to distribute it equitably. For example: how to limit the number of end-users online at the same time? How to set a reasonable window of time? How to temporarily raise bandwidth quotas during final examination weeks? How to automatically slow academic flows at night?

Some schools buy operators for their own sake."Free package.", let the operator handle it. The result is that the operator's billing system only cares about"Is this number a debt?"There is no bandwidth management at all. When everyone was painting the video at 8:00 p.m., the entire campus network was basically paralysed, students complained about calling the information office in the school and then the school asked the operator to cheat on it.

Punk four: Ignoring the transport dimension.

When you choose a model, everyone is looking at the list of functions: how many types of authentication are supported? Can we get a message? Are there real names audited? But few ask: How long will it take to have a system that's in trouble? How well is the log? Can the configuration change be done online or should the service be restarted?

The campus network's feeder is not a big deal with the company network. There are dozens of APs, hundreds of terminals, and if it's a problem, IT's done. Hundreds of APs, thousands of terminals, and students call at 3:00 in the morning."WiFi's broken."You can't send an engineer to the dormitory. You need a complete remote diagnostic capability: see which APs are online, which authentication servers are slow to respond, how many are sent together and whether the export bandwidth of one of the dormitory buildings is full.

A good billing system should reveal these dimensions, preferably a visual Dashboard. Not necessarily, but at least you can tell the problem with the certified server hanging, the export bandwidth full, or some floor switch. Without these systems, the cost of transport is higher than your life-speculation.

Puddle five: Safety compliance, of course.

The Cybersecurity Act requires network operators to retain user logbooks for at least six months, and Public Security Order 82 has a physical name certification requirement for public places.

Commercial WiFi logs are controlled.——A hotel may have thousands of accreditation records a day. But a 20,000 college, with over 100,000 certification logs a day, plus access logs after each certification, has a very significant amount of data. Your billing system not only collects these logs, but also stores them efficiently and retrieves them quickly. Public security requirements when coming to check them."Pull out all the online records of a MAC address at some point in time", if your log system cannot respond in seconds, then sign the modification notification.

The problem is that the real name is certified. There are a lot of non-incorporated staff in higher education who need to be connected to the Internet: parents who come to academic meetings, work at work, and construction team personnel. You can't give everyone an official campus network account, but you can't let them get naked.——Text message authentication, visitor code, two-dimensional sweep.——And every way goes back to the real person. It's not that much to look at when you choose, and it's very expensive to take care of after.

What exactly should the selection look at?

So many holes, three things to look at when you're sort of sorting out. First, whether the system is designed for educational scenes or not."Educational edition"Second, the multi-operator interface is not a raw support and is not built up by secondary development; third, the integrity of the tool chain for delivering peacekeeping security compliance is problematic and it is difficult to locate quickly and trace back.

These three systems are not going to pass, so don't touch them. The network is not a network of higher education institutions."We're done on the line."The cost of selecting the wrong system is far more than tens of thousands of dollars.
