Business selection wireless certification, why functionality lists are not matched to actual demand

Many companies are used to asking questions when choosing wireless certification systems: What kind of authentication do you support? The answers are usually long: AP, CAP, MAP, EAP-MD5, EPA-TLS, PEAP-MSCH.

Many companies are used to asking questions when choosing wireless certification systems: What kind of authentication do you support? The answers are usually long: PAP, CAP, SAP-MD5, EPA-TLS, PAAP-MSCHAPv2, Web Portal, SMS authentication, micro-credits for the enterprise, nails.……The functional list is two or three pages complete. But it turns out that certification does not mean that the actual problem can be solved, and that what business really lacks is not a cold-door agreement, but rather a useful back-up system. The number of functions and technical depths are different; when an enterprise's procurement assessment looks at a checklist check, it will pay for delivery sooner or later.

The procurement evaluation phase, where the integrated and business IT is easily thought out in a functional matrix. A product that says it supports Portal certification, the enterprise agrees that it can solve visitors ' access problems; 802.1X, which enables the company to assume that it can regulate with cable networks; more than 10 certification protocols, which suggest that the system will respond to expansion needs over the next five years. But the physical landing scenario is much more complicated: visitors come and do not open Portal, Portal page compatibility, which does not work on different mobile phones; 802.1X has stability doubts on some old APs, with peak periods when there are time-consuming complaints; The actual name binding needs are connected to the existing AD or nail account system, which usually involves two to three times more work than the integrated operator estimates. These details cannot be seen in the functional list, they can't be demonstrated in a PPT demonstration and must be verified in the real scene.

** The functional list reflects technology ceilings, not project delivery capabilities.** The real need for enterprises to assess four things: whether AP and AC brand models are in the current network environment and not subject to liability of the equipment on the list, which is a matter of liability boundary; whether certification systems can connect with your existing account source; LDAP/AD/Picker/Business Micro-Treat interfaces vary widely, and whether the cost of communicating changes is three days or two weeks as part of the consolidated vendor report, which is project risk; Terminal type distribution, the EAP configuration complexity of Windows and MacOS is quite different, as it is a new adaptation package if an enterprise has Linux workstations; the log retention capacity of certification systems to meet the retention requirements of insurance or industry regulation is mandatory for government clients.

Another common miscalculation is that the "certification" and "counting" are mixed. When an SME selects, it is assumed that supporting multiple certifications will solve bandwidth control and subsector billing. In fact, certification addresses only the question of who you are, and that bandwidth strategies, time quotas, traffic limits are fee-based strategies that require separate costing modules to be matched.

** The selection should not be about the function check, but about three things:** First, whether existing network equipment is in the manufacturer compatibility list and when was this compatibility list last updated.——If the manufacturer has not updated the compatibility list for a year, either to state that the product is no longer maintained or to indicate that your environment may have been excluded from the procurement process, this is recognized. Second, whether the integration of certification systems with account sources will be standard agreement or custom development, LDAP standards will have three times less workload than nail API interfaces, and the higher the degree of customization development, the greater the risk of compatibility at later versions of upgrades. Third, it is also the most important point to ignore: whether manufacturers can provide stress testing reports in the current network environment, and if RADIUS response time and success rates are maintained above the commitment values when 300-500 terminals are certified. The beautiful numbers in the functional presentation and actual performance in a high-combined environment are two different things, with PPTs being less likely to look at pressure test data.

** There is also a dimension that is often overlooked when selecting: the ability of suppliers to implement and the speed of response for follow-up services.** Unlike standard SaaS products, the enterprise wireless certification system involves web environment research, equipment adaptation, strategy configuration, account number matching, and is a complete implementation project. How many of the vendor ' s implementation teams have done, how many cases of equal size have been performed, whether the implementation files are perfect and whether there is any proprietary technical support after delivery——These soft indicators are often put at the bottom of the selection stage, but when there is a problem, the speed of service response is really saving lives. It is not uncommon for products to function in markets with large differences in quality, with a high-level functional demonstration, after-sales services three decades behind, and an overall score may still be lost.

Business Wirest Certification Selection, which costs judgement not to buy a wrong software package but to recut the entire office network, reconnect the account system and reconfigure the employee terminal——The cost of these efforts is far greater than the software authorization fee itself. The functional list is a reference, real scene testing is based on, business demonstrations have limited solutions and in-depth technical validation is the central basis for decision-making.
